How to End the War in Iraq
We need an
honest second opinion. Do you folks remember the equation Bush offered
us in January 07? A + B = C. Or, MAT plus FIG equals a successful surge.
MAT, More American Troops, plus FIG, Functioning Iraqi Government,
equals C, a Successful Surge. He told us that come September '07 he
would have a definitive answer. September '07 comes, and his willing
accomplice, General Petraeus, tells us the surge is working. What
happened to the whole truth? What happened to a Functioning Iraqi
Government?
We need an
honest second opinion! We're a nation addicted to gambling. Our
President is "Double down, one more time" George. We gamble billions at
Atlantic City. More billions at Vegas. More billions on state lotteries.
Billions more are wagered on football, basketball, baseball.
CAPITALISM
CREATES THE WAY FORWARD! The bookmakers of Las Vegas! Their odds are
trusted. Today, they'll give you odds on Hillary becoming President in
'08. Same for Obama, Edwards, McCain, Thompson, Giuliani or Romney.
After 7
years as President, what are the odds that "Double down, one more time"
George will tell us the whole truth in March '08? If the bookmakers tell
us the odds are 5% that Bush will tell us the whole truth, then I say
General Petraeus did not betray us, The Commander Guy did!
If
conservative Republicans want to use Germany of the 1920's as history
lesson for today, the example they offer is wrong - flat out, dead
wrong! A better example is Germany of the 1930's. Max Schmeling,
Germany's heavyweight boxing champion beat America's Joe Lewis in their
first fight. Before their rematch, Joe Lewis said, "He can run, but he
can't hide." Joe Lewis beat Max Schmeling to regain the World
Heavyweight Boxing Championship. His words resonate today. Conservative
Republicans can run, but they can't hide - from reality.
What if
the shoe was on the other foot? What if President George W. Bush was
a Democrat and Rush Limpballs (a certified draft dodger) held Bush
responsible for the fiasco in Iraq? Rush would ask one question, "How
can you trust these Libs to clean up the mess they created. Liberals
loathe the military!" But, the shoe is not on the other foot.
It's
conservative Republicans who actually loathe the military. Bush declared
"Mission Accomplished" 6 1/2 weeks after the start of the war. We are
now 4 1/2 years into this war, with no end in sight. If the truth hurts,
so be it.
Why wait
for Republican Senators and Representatives to break ranks with Bush
come March '08? Impeach Bush and Cheney now for high crimes. How many
more troops have to die? How much more treasure must we waste? How much
longer is "as long as it takes?" Stay the course?
